Learning gives children the skills confidence and opportunities to shape their future.
Learning, developing and participating
Education is about more than attending school.
Children also need opportunities to develop life skills, build positive relationships, strengthen their wellbeing and participate actively in their families and communities.
For Children in Difficult Circumstances (CIDC), access to these opportunities may be disrupted by challenges such as family separation, poverty, abuse, neglect, conflict with the law or social exclusion.
Supporting learning, life skills and personal development helps children build the knowledge, confidence and capabilities needed to navigate life and participate positively in society.

Why it matters
Education plays an important role in helping children develop the skills and knowledge needed for the future.
At the same time, children’s ability to learn and develop is closely connected to their physical, emotional and social wellbeing. Difficult experiences can affect educational participation, personal development and overall confidence.
When children are unable to access education, life skills development and other opportunities for growth, the effects can extend far beyond the classroom.
Supporting children throughout their development helps strengthen their ability to make informed decisions, build positive relationships and participate actively in family and community life.

Building skills for life
Learning takes place in many different ways.
Alongside formal education, children benefit from opportunities to develop communication skills, decision-making abilities, responsibility, self-awareness and positive relationships.
Life skills and personal development help children navigate challenges, make informed choices and participate more actively in society.
These capabilities can support children throughout adolescence and into adulthood, regardless of the circumstances they may face.
Supporting long-term development
Education and wellbeing contribute to Nazhoen Lamtoen’s broader commitment to helping children build stable and positive futures.
By supporting learning, life skills, personal development and participation, this area of work helps children strengthen the capabilities they need to engage with education, contribute to their communities and pursue their goals with confidence.
