Changing the direction of a child’s story

Every child deserves the opportunity to grow up safe, supported and able to reach their full potential.

Yet for some children, life begins with challenges that no child should face. Family breakdown, neglect, violence, poverty, separation from caregivers, conflict with the law and other difficult circumstances can place children at increasing risk and affect their opportunities for the future.

At Nazhoen Lamtoen, we believe that a child’s circumstances should never determine their future.

Through prevention, protection, rehabilitation, reintegration, education, family strengthening and systems strengthening, Nazhoen Lamtoen works alongside children, families, communities and partners to help create safer pathways for children across Bhutan.

Over the years, this work has touched the lives of children, families and communities across the country. Some changes are visible through statistics. Others are reflected in renewed confidence, restored relationships, safer environments and opportunities that once seemed out of reach.

Together, these changes represent the impact of Nazhoen Lamtoen’s work.

A story of change

How one family built greater stability and self-reliance.

A family of four faced serious health and financial challenges after the father became paralysed following an accident and the mother recovered from tuberculosis. Without a stable income, the family depended on relatives and neighbours for food and other essential needs.

During a home assessment, the mother shared her experience in traditional weaving and her determination to use that skill to support her family. Nazhoen Lamtoen provided weaving materials, temporary food support and educational supplies for the two daughters.

The mother has since continued producing and selling handwoven garments. The family is gradually moving towards greater financial stability, while the daughters continue their education with improved access to the materials and support they need.

How change happens

Change develops over time. By recognising needs, providing the right support and helping children and families build strength, Nazhoen Lamtoen contributes to lasting change across children, families, communities and systems.
