Nazhoen Lamtoen and Druk School have developed a children-led anti-bullying initiative that places students at the centre of identifying and responding to bullying in the school environment.
The initiative was developed after a situation analysis and needs assessment highlighted gaps in existing anti-bullying approaches. Rather than treating children only as beneficiaries, the new approach gives them opportunities to identify causes, propose solutions and take leadership roles in creating a safer and more supportive school environment.
Using a socio-ecological approach, the initiative recognises that children’s wellbeing is shaped not only by the school, but also by families, parents and the wider community.
A total of 387 students from Druk School participated in the project design process, identifying causes and effects of bullying and proposing measures to address them. The initiative also involved professionals including counsellors, lawyers, educators, researchers, teachers and child-protection specialists.
The pilot aims to strengthen peer support, make reporting and seeking help easier, and build children’s resilience and leadership while supporting the wellbeing of teachers and the wider school community.
